Researching Your Competitive Landscape

Even before you begin creating content (don’t worry - we’re almost there!), it’s really important to research and understand your competition. This comes before any content creation process because you often get inspiration and find new ways to look at content by analyzing what’s content is making your competition successful. 

It is important to note that we believe you shouldn’t steal your competitors ideas, but instead learn and grow from their success and failures. So how do you find that information? First, you’re going to want to figure out who your competition is in the first place. 

Brainstorm and decide who you are competing with on a local, regional, and national scale. You want to seek out and find brands that are communicating through bold campaigns that match your brand’s personality. 

What brands influence your decision making? Now, track those brands closely. If one of your competitors has an active social presence, figure out what they are doing well. How often are they posting? Are people engaging with their posts? What kind of tone do they speak with as a brand? 

Watch their Facebook and Instagram content and break down how often they are posting text posts, photos, videos, and figure out what is driving the most engagement. 

Once you dig through the competitive analysis, you’ll have a better idea of what your potential customers want.
